Meet Shaina Landhuis, LCSW



Tell us about what made you choose to become a therapist.


I have always enjoyed talking to people and getting to know them. I grew up around people in helping professions and learned that I enjoyed helping people as well. I believe my best personality traits make me a good therapist and it comes naturally to me.



What's one thing about being a client in therapy that has helped you the most?


I enjoy having the uninterrupted space to talk about things that are bothering me. I enjoy taking the time to talk about things I am experiencing and getting a different perspective on things.



What tips do you have for people who have never been in therapy before?


I would suggest going into it with an open mind and being very clear with what works for you and what isn't.



What is your favorite analogy to use in session with clients?


Those who remove mountains begin by carrying away small stones.



What is one of your favorite anxiety-busting techniques?


When I am feeling anxious I like to focus on things that I can see and feel. I find going on walks and looking at the trees and things around me really helps. I also enjoying listening to music and taking deep breaths.

When you're not doing therapy, how do you relax and recharge?


I enjoy spending time with my family, going on walks and runs, and eating good food.



Are you a coffee or tea drinker in session?


I’m always drinking coffee. :)



If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?


I would love to be able to fly.

I will be your biggest advocate and listen to you intently during sessions.
